Medical Policy

At Abyss Scuba School, your safety is our highest priority.

Before participating in any scuba diving, snorkelling, freediving or related in-water activity, all participants must complete the current PADI / RSTC Diver Medical Questionnaire provided as part of the registration process.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to identify any medical conditions that may affect your safety while diving.

Completing the Medical Questionnaire

If you answer "No" to all questions on the questionnaire, no further medical action is normally required before participating.

If you answer "Yes" to any question, you may be required to seek medical advice and obtain written approval from a physician before participating in diving activities, in accordance with the requirements of the current PADI / RSTC medical screening system.

The requirement for medical approval will be determined by the questionnaire itself and any associated physician's evaluation form.

If medical approval is required, participation in diving activities cannot take place until suitable written clearance has been received and reviewed.

Medical Clearance

Where medical clearance is required, the participant is responsible for obtaining the appropriate signed documentation before attending any in-water activities.

Abyss Scuba School reserves the right to request additional clarification or medical evidence where there are concerns regarding diving fitness or safety.

Any costs associated with obtaining medical clearance remain the responsibility of the participant.

Validity of Medical Clearance

Medical clearance is generally considered valid for up to 12 months unless:

  • Your medical condition changes

  • New symptoms develop

  • New medications are prescribed

  • A healthcare professional advises otherwise

Participants must immediately inform Abyss Scuba School of any changes to their health that occur after completing the medical questionnaire.

Failure to Provide Medical Clearance

If medical approval is required and not provided before the course or activity start date, participation will not be permitted.

Any rescheduling fees, cancellation charges or course fees will be applied in accordance with Abyss Scuba School's Terms & Conditions.

Participant Responsibilities

Participants are responsible for ensuring all medical information provided is accurate, complete and truthful.

Failure to disclose relevant medical information may result in:

  • Refusal of participation

  • Removal from training

  • Cancellation of certification processing

  • Course termination without refund

  • Additional training or assessment requirements

Fitness to Dive

Scuba diving involves physical exertion and exposure to an underwater environment that may increase risks associated with certain medical conditions.

Abyss Scuba School reserves the right to refuse participation where a participant is believed to be medically unfit to dive or where sufficient medical evidence has not been provided.

Further Advice

If you are unsure whether a medical condition may affect your ability to dive, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a doctor experienced in diving medicine before booking.
