Help develop the next generation of diving instructors with the PADI IDC Staff Instructor course at Abyss Scuba School. Designed for Master Scuba Diver Trainers, this course builds on your teaching experience and prepares you to support instructor candidates as they develop their skills.
Working alongside a PADI Course Director, you’ll learn how instructor development is organised, how teaching presentations are evaluated and how to give clear, constructive feedback.
Course Highlights
Knowledge Development
Explore instructor development standards, course organisation and the responsibilities of an IDC Staff Instructor. Learn how to organise Assistant Instructor training and support the delivery of an Instructor Development Course.
Evaluation Training
Learn how to assess knowledge development, confined water and open water teaching presentations using PADI’s evaluation criteria. Practise identifying strengths, recognising areas for improvement and giving feedback that helps candidates progress.
Practical Training
Complete an initial assessment of your dive theory, standards knowledge, diving skills and teaching presentations.
You’ll then develop your instructor training skills by auditing an IDC or practising the required teaching components through the alternative course route. Your Course Director will confirm the format and schedule before you book.
Certification
After successfully completing the course requirements and assessments, you can apply for the PADI IDC Staff Instructor rating.
Once approved and meeting the relevant teaching status requirements, you can teach Assistant Instructor courses at authorised PADI centres and assist a Course Director with Instructor Development Courses.
