Take the next step from Assistant Instructor with the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor programme at Abyss Scuba School. Develop your teaching skills, strengthen your understanding of PADI standards and prepare to guide students through their diving education.
The OWSI programme forms the second part of the PADI Instructor Development Course. Through knowledge development, pool training and open water workshops, you’ll prepare for the separate PADI Instructor Examination, with guidance and feedback from your Course Director.
Course Highlights
Knowledge Development
Build your understanding of the PADI teaching system, course standards and instructor responsibilities. Practise delivering clear teaching presentations and learn how to plan courses, assess student progress and manage training activities.
Confined Water Teaching
Develop your skill demonstrations and teaching presentations in our private heated indoor pool. Practise observing students, identifying difficulties and providing helpful feedback, with support from your Course Director.
Open Water Workshops
Develop your approach to organising and conducting open water training. Practise briefings, student supervision and teaching presentations while applying PADI standards to practical training situations.
Certification
Successfully completing the OWSI programme prepares you to attend the PADI Instructor Examination, provided you meet its entry requirements. The examination is conducted separately by PADI Instructor Examiners.
You earn the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating after passing the examination and meeting all certification requirements. In teaching status, this allows you to teach a range of PADI programmes, including Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver and Divemaster.
